The first thing you need is image editing software. If you already have software like Photoshop, you can use it. If you don’t have any image editing software, check out our list of free and easy-to-use image editing software and pick your favorite. For demonstration purposes, we will be using Paint.net.

Once your software is downloaded, you will also need an image to use. You can use a picture of yourself or a random photo, you can even start from scratch. the choice is yours. The first thing you’ll want to do is create a 1080×1080 image in your software of choice, as these are the minimum dimensions required for Xbox GamerPic.

Exporting Your Gamerpic for Xbox Live

Once you have selected or created the image you want to use, copy and paste it into the 1080×1080 image you created in the previous step. You now have a reasonably sized image, congratulations. However, this is only half the battle. Now we need to export it to the maximum format and size that Xbox Live can handle.

Xbox doesn’t describe its file size requirements anywhere online, but to be sure, it’s best to stick with a limit of less than 600KB. That means it’ll be easier to download, and you also have to remember that people rarely, if ever, visit it for a closer look, so there’s not much to do with very large files.

We recommend that you export your image in jpg/jpeg format. In most image editing software, this type of export gives you more control over the file size, thanks to the format’s adjustable compression. When saving in JPEG format, you should see a slider and an estimate of the file size in most software. Simply adjust the slider down until the file size is 600KB or less and save your image.
